What’s in the South Australia 2024-25 budget for your grantseeking organisation?

South Australian Treasurer Stephen Mullighan handed down the state budget on June 6.

Children’s participation in recreational activities is funded in the 2024-25 budget.

Funding highlights for community groups, non-government organisations and social sector services included:

  • $54.6 million over four years to expand the sports vouchers program. From January 1, 2025, vouchers will be doubled to $200 per year to support children’s participation in recreational activities
  • $20.7 million over five years to establish an arts investment fund
  • $20 million in 2024–25 for Small Business Energy Grants for small business and not-for-profits to reduce energy usage and invest in energy-efficient equipment. Applications are set to open in August 2024
  • $14 million over four years to expand the Business Events Fund with a focus on supporting more winter events
  • $7.2 million over three years to continue the partnership between the South Australian Film Corporation and the ABC to produce screen content in South Australia
  • $5 million over four years for youth mental health support to fund a range of programs
  • $2.6 million over four years for early intervention and prevention of youth violence within African South Australian communities
  • $1 million over four years to support veteran community programs
  • $380,000 over two years to extend and expand to all age groups the SAYES program, a business mentoring and learning program designed to help South Australian entrepreneurs
  • funding for software engineering degree apprenticeships for the defence industry with a focus on attracting female participants
  • grants to incentivise non-government preschool providers to create additional places
  • continued funding for Fearless Innovator Grants
  • $18.4 million over four years to help non-government organisations (NGOs) to meet the costs associated with wages and inflation.

It's still unclear when or how this money will trickle down to not-for-profits and community groups, but we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for grant updates relevant to Funding Centre members.
